Collagen is the most abundant protein in our body and forms part of the connective tissue. Its function is to provide structural support to different parts of the body: skin, bones, muscles, ligaments, cartilage, tendons, blood vessels, etc.
Our skin needs collagen to keep its firmness and elasticity, to combat wrinkles and fine lines, and to facilitate the repair of damaged tissues. Plus, collagen helps to keep our skin hydrated and protected against environmental damage as well as reinforcing the cutaneous barrier and contributing to an even skin tone.
Skin rich in collagen is firm and more resilient against external agents such as solar radiation, pollution and the cold. Skin with the correct levels of collagen can heal more quickly, which can reduce acne scars for instance.
Our body contains 28 types of collagen, the most abundant of which is type I. This is found in the majority of connective tissues, including our skin.
Hydrolyzed collagen, also known as collagen hydrolysate, is a collagen molecule that has been broken down into smaller particles—a combination of amino acids and peptides— to better penetrate the skin. This ingredient contributes to support the architecture and volume of the skin, resulting in a firmer, more radiant, and elastic complexion.
If you use a cream or serum with collagen on a regular basis, morning and night, you should begin to see the results on your skin in 2 or 3 weeks.
Collagen production in our body begins to drop dramatically around the age of 30. To counteract this natural reduction, we recommend you begin using collagen from age 25 onwards.
Collagen is a very versatile ingredient, and it doesn’t cause photosensitivity so it can be used both morning and night.
In skincare products, collagen can be combined with any other ingredient or active agent—retinol, vitamin C, antioxidants, elastin, salicylic acid, etc.— depending on the results you want to achieve.
Like collagen, elastin forms part of what we call the skin structure. However, while collagen provides resilience, elastin provides elasticity. So the two ingredients complement one another effectively and are the basis for a juicy, toned and supple complexion.
Discover the benefits of both ingredients with Essential Shock Intense Cream, the ideal boost of nourishment for dry skin.
Collagen and hyaluronic acid combined help effectively reduce the appearance of wrinkles and expression lines as well as combating sagging.
The best example: our anti-wrinkle Inhibit High Definition Serum.
Vitamin C is the best ingredient to take collagen results to the next level, as this super vitamin helps support the body’s natural collagen processes. This makes skin visibly firmer and suppler as well as improving its resilience.
Don’t miss our C+C Vitamin Cream to enjoy the benefits of both ingredients in a single product.
