Of the family of retinoids—derived from vitamin A—, retinol is the one that is most widely used in skincare products. When applied to your skin, it becomes retinoic acid.
A large number of medical and scientific studies document the efficacy of this cosmetic ingredient to reduce the most common signs of skin aging.
Retinol is known as one of the most effective anti-aging ingredients.
Several research papers have confirmed that its action helps improve epidermal renewal, stimulate collagen and glycosaminoglycan production, and diminish melanin synthesis.
Hence, it contributes to improving your skin’s texture and firmness and to minimizing wrinkles and expression lines. It has also been shown to give a more even skin tone, as it helps fade the appearance of dark spots.
If you have combination, oily or acne-prone skin, retinol works for you too! In addition to its rejuvenating properties, it’s an incredible sebum regulator, controlling excess oil and shine, not to mention helping unblock pores.
While it is true that retinol can cause dryness, there are no issues with using it on dry skin. However, we recommend introducing it gradually until your skin adapts to it.
Start with a low-concentration retinol product, like our Essential Shock Intense Retinol Fluid, preferably in autumn or winter. Apply once or twice per week (not on consecutive days) and complete your skincare routine with deeply hydrating and nourishing skincare products.
Retinol is a very powerful ingredient that may cause some irritation or skin discomfort during the adaptation period, also known as retinization. If you still want to introduce this active agent into your daily routine, begin gradually. Apply it once every three nights for the first week and then every other night after that.
To make the process more comfortable, combine it with hydrating, nourishing and soothing formulas.
Important! Daily use of retinol can make skin more sensitive to solar radiation. We therefore recommend only using it at night. And then SPF 50 sunscreen should always be applied during the day.
Apply retinol to skin after cleansing and toning. It is important to moisturize thoroughly with a suitable serum and/or cream afterward.
To see the results on your skin, consistency is vital. After three months you will start to notice a visibly rejuvenated appearance.
Our skin begins to lose elasticity and firmness around the age of 30, so we recommend taking preventive measures to delay the signs of aging from 25 onwards.
People with oily or acne-prone skin can begin to use retinol during adolescence to benefit from its powerful sebum-regulating action.
Despite being a very powerful active ingredient, retinol combines perfectly with most ingredients, except other retinoids or benzoyl peroxide since the combination could be too challenging for the skin.
Be sure to complete your skincare routine with super-hydrating and nourishing ingredients.
Retinol and alpha hydroxy acids form an infallible renewing duo for all skin types. They also improve softness and firmness.
The two active agents can be combined without any problems but take into account the type of retinol and the balance between the percentages of both. Only then will you obtain the best results with good tolerance.
One formula with the perfect balance of these two ingredients is our serum Essential Shock Intense Retinol Night Renewal.
These active agents join forces to prevent and reduce the appearance of wrinkles, maintain the balance of the cutaneous barrier, improve hydration and contribute to a healthy-looking complexion. In addition, hyaluronic acid improves the retinization process.
If you’re seeking to improve your skin’s suppleness and firmness while also minimizing the appearance of lines and wrinkles, this combination is ideal.
You can find this perfect rejuvenating blend in our serum Essential Shock Intense Retinol Fluid.
Retinol and niacinamide are the star age-defying duo if you want visible results in record time. As well both ingredients delivering significant rejuvenating benefits, niacinamide helps counteract any of retinol’s potential side effects, such as dryness.
Retinol and vitamin C complement each other perfectly, as both active ingredients are key to preventing and improving the appearance of signs of aging. Among their multiple functions, both ingredients support your skin’s natural collagen processes to help reduce wrinkles.
At Natura Bissé we recommend using products with vitamin C during the day and ones with retinol at night for a highly effective beauty routine
